I have an old engagement ring I would like to trade-in for a new one, any advice?
I can't go back to the old jeweler for the trade-in, will another jeweler give me a good amount if I buy a new ring as well. Any recommendations of how to get the most money? How much do you think I can get for the trade in, the appraisal is as follows: One ladies 14karat yellow gold and solitaire engagement ring, modern cast, die struck and assembled construction, high polish finish. This ring consists of a 2.5 mm wide, flat shank that tapers to 3.2 mm at the top where there is l round brilliant cut diamond, set in a 14karat white gold, 4 prong, tiffany style head, measuring 7.31 x 7.36x 4.40mm (depth was visually estimated due to mounting), weighing 1.44 carats by formula, Color J-K, Clarity I1. This ring is in good condition and weighs 2.56 dwt. value $6,200.
If you like the size of the stone have it re-set, it really doesn't cost much at all, a good jeweler (not a chain) will even give you credit for the metal. We had my grandmothers diamond used in my ring and with the custom design and additional stones it was very reasonable.
Ask around, otherwise the professional appraisal and Ebay auction might be your best bet.
